World's most precise rangefinder
Micrometer level precision with absolute measurements
Lasertex DM-20 provides fast, absolute distance measurement with micrometre-level accuracy over ranges up to 20 m. Unlike interferometers, it does not require a continuous optical path—measurements can be taken immediately after beam interruption, without re-zeroing or recalibration. This makes it ideal for large-scale dimensional checks, alignment, and verification of manufactured components directly on the production floor.
Using a retroreflector target, the instrument delivers ±10 µm + 1.5 µm/m precision while remaining compact, portable, and safe (Class 1 laser). It connects via USB-C or Bluetooth and operates up to six hours on an internal Li-ion battery.
Engineers can quickly confirm critical dimensions of welded frames, castings, machine bases, or assembled modules without complex setup or environmental control right from the OLED display. The rangefinder bridges the gap between industrial laser distance sensors and laboratory interferometers—offering absolute accuracy, robust operation, and mobility for real-world manufacturing, assembly, and quality-control environments.
Rangefinder features
OLED screen
Basic operations and readouts can be done without computer thanks to build-in bright OLED display.
Battery powered
The device is battery powered with Li-ion accumulator and allow for 4-6 hours of operation. This feature makes the device portable and allows for fast operations as it naturally be mounted and unmounted faster that any mains powered device.
Absolute and relative measurement modes
Two measurement modes make this device really versatile in it’s application. For fast measurement it is handy to use absolute mode that is similar to any portable laser rangefinder, but with much higher precision. For demanding user relative mode is available that allow for almost interferometer like precision.
Readout frequency up to 100 kHz
High readout frequency allows for more captured data that can be useful in some applications like capture of high-speed motion, vibration and transient events.
USB-C and Bluetooth connectivity
Can be operated completely wireless or can be connected with USB-C cable that provides data transfer as well as power for the device.
Compact system size
Compact body and packed in a rigid case is easy to store, operate and transfer. The system can find multiple applications at one facility so we made it as compact and transportable as possible.
DM-20 brings the simplicity of a laser rangefinder to micrometre-level industrial metrology
Laser interferometers, laser trackers and large CMMs provide excellent measurement performance, but their use often involves significant investment, operator training and specific measurement setups. Interferometers require continuous beam alignment and uninterrupted optical paths, while the reflector must follow the measurement axis. Laser trackers require sufficient working space and appropriate target positioning, and large-volume CMMs become increasingly expensive as the required measurement volume increases.
At the other end of the spectrum, portable laser rangefinders have been widely used in construction and surveying for decades. They demonstrate how convenient absolute distance measurement can be: point the instrument at a target and obtain a distance directly. Their accuracy, however, is generally insufficient for precision industrial metrology.
The Lasertex DM-20 was developed to combine the convenience of a portable laser rangefinder with micrometre-level industrial measurement performance.
With a measurement range of up to 20 m and accuracy of ±(10 µm + 1.5 µm/m), the DM-20 can address a broad range of dimensional measurement, alignment, assembly and machine-building applications. In absolute measurement mode, interruption of the laser beam does not result in loss of the measured position. Once the optical path is restored, absolute distance measurement can continue without re-zeroing.
This makes measurement procedures considerably more flexible. The operator can measure large structures and components without maintaining a continuous optical path throughout the entire operation. Combined with its compact form factor, internal battery, OLED display, USB-C and Bluetooth connectivity, the DM-20 is designed for practical production-floor metrology rather than exclusively laboratory use.
The DM-20 therefore occupies the space between conventional laser rangefinders and complex high-end metrology systems: a portable, straightforward and cost-effective instrument for applications where micrometre-level accuracy is required, while the complexity of an interferometer, laser tracker or large CMM is unnecessary.
