Optical detector for an oscilloscope

Optical counter OC-1100, oscilloscope optical detectorOptical Counter OC-1100 is a unique device that provides visual awe representation on an oscilloscope screen. The device provides high sensitivity, high frequency, very low noise APD photodetector and a frequency counter. Optical counter for oscilloscope is enclosed in a compact and sturdy case with two outputs: analog and USB, an external clock input and a power supply connector. The analog output can be used for signal monitoring e.g. with an external spectrum analyser.

The instrument is delivered with a power supply, a USB cable and a PC software. The software allows automatic measurement of frequency deviations with averaging periods from 100µs to 1000s. The results can be displayed or stored. The software calculates also the Allan Variance of the measured signal making the device perfect for testing the frequency stability of lasers.

Optical Counter OC-1100 is especially destined for research and university laboratories.

Optical Counter for oscilloscope application

An optical detector connected to an oscilloscope is a versatile setup can be used in a variety of applications in different fields. Here are some potential applications:

  • Telecommunications: Optical detectors is a handy tool in analysing light signals in fibre optic communication systems. The oscilloscope with connected counter can be used for signal integrity measures as well as waveform analysis, and bandwidth testing.
  • Laser and optoelectronics devise testing: during research and development of lasers or optoelectronics with this setup you can measure pulse shapes as well as power fluctuations and modulations in the output.
  • Material science and engineering: interactions of light within materials can be studied using this setup. It can help with understanding the optical properties of materials, such as reflectance, transmittance, and absorption.
  • Biomedical applications: Optical detectors coupled with oscilloscopes are used in various biomedical imaging applications and sensing techniques, including spectroscopy and photodynamic therapy.
  • Environmental Monitoring: this setup can be used in monitoring environmental parameters like light intensity and quality of light. It is crucial in studies related to photosynthesis in plants or solar radiation as well as atmospheric sciences.
  • Educational and laboratory experiments: in educational environment this combination can be used for real time demonstration fundamental principles of optics and waveforms that helps students to understand such concepts like interference, diffraction and polarisation.
  • Quality control in manufacturing: optical detectors an counters attached to oscilloscopes can be used for quality control manufacturing stage to check the consistency and quality of light-emitting devices like LEDs and laser diodes.
  • Astronomy and space research: the counters can be used in telescopes and other observational instruments to analyse the light emissions from celestial bodies that aids in the study of astrophysical phenomena.
  • Automotive industry: for automotive lighting and signalling systems this setup can test and ensure the performance and compliance of lighting components.
